Kenya is set to get a US$185 million public health platform that will integrate patient records, thus improving efficiency and service continuity.

ITWeb reports that the Integrated Healthcare Information Technology System (IHITS) will be developed over 10 years and will be financed by telecoms company Safaricom, Apeiro, a subsidiary of Sirius International Holding, and Kenya-based Konvergenz Network Solutions.

The three companies will combine their experience in digital infrastructure, health technology and healthcare management to produce a health information exchange, to enhance interoperability among Kenya’s health systems.

In addition, the system will enable a standards-based IHITS to help digitise Kenya’s public health institutions.

Features include a locally hosted health cloud, special endpoint devices such as tablets and PCs for healthcare personnel and a secure mobile and fixed network infrastructure across public health facilities.
