First gear Kenya is to start assembling right-hand drive electric vehicles (EV) within the next two months. Africa Business Communities reports that Chinese auto manufacturer Neta Auto is opening a vehicle assembly plant in Kenya, following the opening of a retail store in Nairobi. The local factory will assemble 250 EVs a month. The Neta V is already available in Kenya, and models such as Neta Aya and Neta X will follow. The Neta V has a 380 km range on a single charge and has a top speed of 100 km/h. Neta Auto says it plans to enter 20 countries, open 100 stores and achieve an annual sales volume of more than 20 000 units within three years in Africa. 30 July 2024 Image: Freepik
