Energy flow Mozambique plans to extend its electricity grid to accommodate more renewable energy projects. Included in the country’s energy transition plans, the US$2.54 billion initiative aims to add 7.5GW of solar power and 2.5GW wind power to the country’s grid, reports Moneyweb. According to the government’s Energy Transition Strategy, estimated to cost an overall US$80 billion, the country also intends adding 9 GW of hydropower between 2030 and 2040, with more to follow to make up a total of 14GW hydropower. Most of the hydropower projects will be fed by the Zambezi river, already the site of the 2 075MW Cahora Bassa scheme and the new 1 050MW, US$5 billion Mphanda Nkuwa dam. The dam is being developed by TotalEnergies and Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation.
