Mozambique is improving its digital connections to the rest of the world with the installation of two cross-border fibre cables to South Africa.

The new cables routes are an alternative to standard subsea cables and were laid by ITC network provider Paratus Group, reports ITWeb.

One of the routes passes through eSwatini while the second passes through Komatipoort in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The dual route will ensure stability and resiliency for Mozambique’s digital infrastructure, according to the company.

The second fibre link will seamlessly take over in case of a cable outage, allowing uninterrupted communications and data transmission.

Mozambique now had ‘secure, fast and redundant cross-border links with the rest of the world’, said Paratus country manager Rui Costa.
