Lights on More than 200 000 households in Angola are expected to benefit from a solar mini-grid project. Bizcommunity reports that 43 hybrid solar power and battery systems will be built in the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Bié and Malanje, bringing electricity to 203 000 households in 60 communities. The project, developed by Angola’s Department of Energy and Water, will be funded by EUR1.2 billion in financing from Standard Chartered. The financing will also cover the expansion of the national grid in Malanje and building new lines and networks connecting municipalities. According to project manager MCA Group, the solar power network will help diversify the country’s energy mix and can save up to 7.9 million tons of CO2 emissions. 8 August 2023 Image: Freepik
