Digital hub The DRC is poised to open its first Tier III, carrier-neutral data centre. ITWeb Africa reports that Open Access Data Centres’ (OADC) Kinshasa hub is scheduled to go live in November, giving content providers and distributors access to a quality peering location. The data centre will be located in Kinshasa’s Silikin Village, an entrepreneurship and innovation hub set up by local real estate and digital company Texaf, one of the partners in the data centre development with OADC. ‘There has already been strong uptake from telcos looking to colocate in our facility, while the banking sector is leading the way in adopting OADC solutions. It is also attracting large international content providers to the DRC,’ says Mohammed Bouhelal, MD of OADC DRC. According to pan-African digital infrastructure firm WIOCC, which owns OADC, the data centre will ‘create the first vibrant and comprehensive interconnection and peering ecosystem in the country involving multiple carriers, internet service providers, content providers and internet exchange’ and will ‘transform the digital infrastructure ecosystem’. 18 July 2023 Image: Freepik
