South Africa and Mauritius are becoming better connected with the successful installation of a new submarine fibre cable.

Africa Business Communities reports that pan-African tech group Liquid Intelligent Technologies has successfully deployed the Mauritius Telecom T3 subsea cable at its station in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.

The cable, a joint project with Mauritius Telecom, links to Mauritius at Baie Jacotet and has branching units to Reunion and Madagascar.

The T3 cable – comprising four fibre pairs, with a design capacity of 13.5 Tbps per fibre pair and 54 Tbps for the whole system – is expected to improve internet stability and connectivity between the two countries.

According to Liquid South Africa, the project will stimulate economic growth and contribute to the overall development of communities by creating  job opportunities.
