A major green hydrogen project has been launched in Namibia.

The Daures Green Hydrogen Village (DGHV), based in the Daures Constituency in the Erongo region, will produce green hydrogen and green ammonia using renewable energy sources. According to the Namibian Economist, the project will produce 31 tons of hydrogen and 109 tons of ammonia per year during the first phase of operation.

It is expected that the project, launched by the Daures Green Hydrogen Consortium, will create more than 70 jobs during the first phase as well as 100 temporary jobs during construction. It is predicted that phase four will produce 352 000 tons of green ammonia using 1 GW worth of renewable energy and a 420 MW electrolyser. More than 1 000 jobs will be created during this phase.

Construction of phase one is scheduled to start in March 2023.
