In a first for Ghana, a local miner has successfully exported gold that is fully traceable through blockchain technology.

Mining Review reports that the 11.63g of gold came from Obeng Mines and was traded using the Minexx blockchain platform. The initiative was supported by civil society organisation Solidaridad, which promotes responsible practices in artisanal and small-scale mines in Ghana.

Minexx CEO Marcus Scaramanga said the achievement was significant for the country, the continent’s largest gold producer.

The gold was exported to the international market through Ghanaian gold trader HA Exploits.
