Home grown The Tanzanian government has announced plans to build its own COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing plant. As reported by the Citizen, this is in response to projections that the country could spend close to TZS216 billion in vaccine imports by 2030. Tanzania also has hopes to become a major exporter of vaccines to East and Southern African nations. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has reportedly approached the EU to consider funding the plan. In a statement to European Council president Charles Michel, she stated that she is ‘looking forward to facilitation of this idea into a fruitful project. I trust this plan, when implemented, will open new avenues to deepen our ties’. 1 March 2022 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
