Growth spurt Cashew nut production in Tanzania is forecast to increase by more than a third next year. Favourable weather conditions, more widespread availability of farming inputs and increased plantings are being attributed to the considerable rise in output, with production expected to reach 300 000 tons in 2019/20 (October to September), compared to 225 000 tons in the 2018/19 season, according to a Reuters report. The government is working on plans to draw investment into cashew nut processing, as much of the country’s exported product is in raw form. 1 October 2019 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
