Tanzania and Zambia are working on plans to build a pipeline for refined products between the two nations.

The 1 349 km pipeline, which is expected to cost around US$1.5 billion, was recently announced by Tanzanian Minister of Energy Medard Kalemani. It will transport petroleum from Dar es Salaam to the Zambian mining town of Ndola. The project will be launched with a feasibility study over the next fiscal year, as reported by Reuters.

‘The project will reduce challenges in transporting petroleum products in the countries that use our ports to import fuel and open up business opportunities,’ according to Kalemani. ‘[It will be] implemented jointly by Zambia and Tanzania.’

A crude oil pipeline between Tanzania and Zambia already exists.
