Branching out Land-locked Uganda has announced plans to construct a dry port in Naivasha, Kenya, to improve logistics between the two countries. Kenya has provided land for the construction of the dry port, which will act as an inland holding facility for cargo from the Kenyan port of Mombasa. This latest development is also an expansion of the joint standard gauge railway (SGR) project that is currently under way, which will link the two countries, as well as Rwanda and the DRC. As reported by Construction Review, the SGR is expected to ensure the much faster transportation of goods between Mombasa and the Kenya-Uganda border town of Malaba, which will in turn lessen costs. 9 April 2019 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
