Solid foundation Ghana is cementing plans to address its national housing deficit by refinancing deserted building developments. President Nana Akufo-Addo announced during his February State of the Nation address that ‘a consortium of local banks has raised US$51 million to fund the completion of the social housing units started by the Kufuor administration’ as far back as 2006. An MoU has also been signed between construction company HS Kodana and developer Sidre EPCM Investment Tourism Inc that will see 100 000 new units being built at Ojobi, around Kasoa in Ghana’s Central Region, as reported by World News. The nation currently has a housing deficit of more than 1.7 million units. ‘Government will continue with the other housing projects for the police, armed forces and government workers across the country, through agencies like the State Housing Corporation,’ said Akufo-Addo. 19 March 2019 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
